Waterworks Packaged Water Treatment Plant for 1988 Winter Olympics
Waterworks was chosen to supply a water treatment plant at the Mount Nakiska site of the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary. Located mid mountain at the site of the alpine events, the system was portable, self-contained, and designed to withstand extreme cold, rugged conditions and with limited maintenance.
The treatment system consisted of a depressurizing unit (for the 900 psi snow making water), grit removal, filtration, chlorination, distribution lines and pumps to supply the Olympic facilities with water.
Waterworks supplied its own WaterPac Filterfloc upflow adsorptive filter systems which have been used successfully on many potable water, industrial water, and recycle projects. These units are very compact and easy to operate. The WaterPac Filterloc is fully automatic and is contained in a single free standing unit.
Water Transport System for US Army in Kosovo
Waterworks supplied and installed 10 kilometres of water mains, two tank farms, pumps stations and a SCADA system to supply and distribute water for 10,000 soldiers and workers at Camp Bondsteel in Kosovo.

Seawater Desalination for Egyptian Resort
Waterworks supplied, installed, and operates a 1,600 m3/day desalination plant for a major resort on the Red Sea. This provided the highest quality of drinking water in one of the most arid environments on the planet.
Waterworks manages the plant on a ten year operating contract as part of its BOT agreement with the client. Expert advice and professional operations are part of Waterworks service package.
This project was constructed with a combination of local contractors and design staff from Waterworks' head office. Our network of professional engineers and technicians collaborate to give any project the necessary organization to be successful.
Waterworks' Deployable TFEA System for a Construction Camp
Waterworks supplied a 25 m3/day package treatment system that was barged to a remote coastal island off British Columbia for treating effluent from a directional drilling operation camp. Treated effluent was discharged to a protected shell fish rich marine bay and had to achieve strict discharge requirments.
The unit had to be very small for easy transportation and operate with minimal operator attention. Flow volumes and strengths swing wildly throughout the day as did contaminant levels.
Influent was equalized and screened through a static screen, then treated in a Waterworks Trickling Filter Extended Aeration (TFEA) unit. The effluent was disinfected before discharge.
The treatment plant was only 6 feet by 16 feet in plan area.
Waterworks meets U.S. Army Requirements in Kosovo
Waterworks was chosen from a group of world-class competitors to build two sewage treatment plants in the war torn province of Kosovo in Yugoslavia. The plants receive wastewater from the two largest NATO bases in the U.S. patrolled sector of Kosovo. Kellogg, Brown and Root Services of Houston, Texas, suppliers of civil support to the U.S. Army for decades, contracted Waterworks to fulfill their requirements - to meet the same treatment standards that would be required in the United States.
Waterworks supplied a compact design that allowed all the components of the wastewater plants to be shipped completely within standard 40 ft. shipping containers. Even with a challenging 90 day schedule for design, fabrication, shipping, and installation (in sub zero temperatures), Waterworks was able to commission one plant 20 days ahead of schedule and the second exactly on time. Waterworks proved their ability to deliver results on time, in remote locations, and especially under difficult conditions.
The two plants have daily treatment capacities of 1,200 m3/day and 2,400 m3/day respectively. The use of standard design components in the Waterworks inventory allowed construction of three identical TFEA systems, one for the smaller project and the other two for the larger site.

Plant effluent was disinfected before discharge to storage lagoons. Ongoing U.S.Army testing revealed the effluent from both plants was far superior to design expectations (COD less than 10 mg/l in many tests), surpassing all performance expectations.
Final treated effluent is stored in two aerated storage cells where it is recycled for irrigation and dust abatement.
Sewage Treatment in Hong Kong
Waterworks Trickling Filter Extended Aeration (TFEA) sewage treatment was selected for an industrial complex on Tsing Yi Island in Hong Kong to meet strict space limitations and discharge requirements.
The 400 m3/day secondary treatment process is comprised of fine screening, aerated equalization, and TFEA biological treatment units. Sludge is digested in a aerobic sludge digester and pressed in a plate and frame type sludge press. Tertiary treatment is achieved using multimedia filters and chlorine disinfection.
Utility Management for Silver Star Ski Resort Wastewater System
At the Silver Star Ski Resort near Vernon, BC, Waterworks installed a complete wastewater system to enable expansion and increased profitability. Through a separate company, Silverhawk Utilities, the entire operation is operated and managed as a utility.
The wastewater is collected from the mountain and piped to the wastewater treatment plant through a 3 km long, 250 mm diameter piping system.
The wastewater treatment system incorporates primary screening, a trickling filter extended aeration unit, and an exfiltration pond. Silverhawk Utilities also owns the entire sanitary sewer system, sewage treatment system, storage reservoir, and all related operating equipment. As a utility Silverhawk is responsible for all billing, government reporting, and permitting for upgrades.
